Code of practice


Sample code of practice for coaches and consultants working with clients.

(Coach/consultant) adheres to the following Code of Practice as the ethical basis for all aspects of its work with clients:

The principal focus of (coach/consultant’s) services is on the personal and professional development of the client.

The (coach/consultant) has no responsibility for changing the work or practice of the client and the client is under no compulsion to accept or use the ideas or suggestions of (coach/consultant).

The agenda, methods and specific desired outcomes of (coach/consultant’s) services will be explored, negotiated and agreed in advance between (coach/consultant) and the client and subject to periodic review.

(Coach/consultant) will respect the client’s right to hold his or her own beliefs, values and professional frameworks and will not attempt to impose by coercion or manipulation any alternative viewpoints.

Client-specific details are confidential and may only be disclosed to third parties by the client, with the client’s permission or in exceptional circumstances where (coach/consultant) considers that the client and/or other third parties are at serious risk.

(Coach/consultant) reserves the right to use general content of sessions in its publicity, training and/or other published materials in strictly non-attributable form.
