Learning contract
Introduction
In interactive learning environments (e.g. action learning groups) that depend on active participation from group members, it can be helpful to establish certain explicit ground rules which help all members to take part. Some ideas are listed below:
Contract
It’s OK not to know something
I will commit myself to the group because I want to learn
I will take responsibility for my own learning
I will take responsibility to help support my colleagues’ learning
I will uphold Biblical values and professional standards, respecting my fellow colleagues at all times
I will hold what I hear in confidence
I will actively contribute my own ideas and expertise
If I agree to lead or present something, I will do so to the best of my ability
I will make notes to help me apply learning in my own work
I won’t pretend that I understand something if I don’t
I will ask questions if I don’t understand, even if I feel nervous
I will determine to leave knowing more than I did when I arrived
